With the growing number of scrapped vehicles, the recycling of three-way catalytic converter cores has become an emerging green industry. The rare precious metals contained within them, such as platinum, palladium, and rhodium, have high recycling value. Each ton of scrapped cores can yield 300-800 grams of precious metals, with a recycling value exceeding 100,000 yuan.

Many domestic environmental protection companies have established specialized recycling lines, utilizing processes such as physical crushing, chemical leaching, and precious metal purification to achieve resource reuse. Some companies have achieved recycling rates exceeding 95%, far exceeding the international average.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology stated that it will promote the establishment of a closed-loop "production-use-recycling" system, encouraging automakers to collaborate with recycling companies to improve the standardized processing rate of discarded catalytic converters. This initiative will not only reduce resource waste but also lower dependence on imported precious metals, contributing to national resource security.
