This standard specifies the dimensional requirements and coating thickness for electroplated steel and steel alloy fasteners, and provides recommendations for eliminating hydrogen embrittlement for high-tensile strength, hardened, or case-hardened fasteners. This standard applies to electroplated coatings on threaded fasteners and other fasteners. It is also generally applicable to fasteners with matching internal threads that can be cut or rolled, such as self-tapping screws, wood screws, self-drilling screws, and self-extruding screws. The provisions of this standard also apply to non-threaded fasteners, such as washers and pins.
The main changes compared to GB/T 5267-1985 are as follows:
Adjustments to terms and definitions;
Removal of the conditions for use of electroplated coatings;
Addition of provisions for the maximum tolerance for coating thickness for thread pitches P = 0.2 to 0.3 mm, and adjustments to the maximum tolerance for coating thickness for some other thread pitches;
Removal of the provisions regarding coating thickness acceptance inspection in the old standard, and adoption of the provisions of GB/T 90.1;
Adjustment and supplementation of information on eliminating hydrogen embrittlement;
Removal of the method for measuring local thickness;
Addition of provisions for electroplated coatings on threaded parts. Code Marking System;

Added examples of coating marking.
Appendix D, "Method for Measuring Batch Average Coating Thickness," and Appendix E, "Method for Marking Class A Coatings on Threaded Parts," are normative appendices. Appendix A, "Measures for Removing Hydrogen Embrittlement," Appendix B, "Protection Performance of Metal Coatings Against Salt Spray Corrosion," Appendix C, "Guidance Procedure for Acceptable Metal Coating Thickness," Appendix F, "Examples of Coating Marking," and Appendix G, "Surface Area of Screws and Nuts," are informative appendices.
